Cant get online?

I Try using safe mode with networking to get online if you cannot get online in the normal manner.

Some older computers that use a USB mouse, keyboard and wireless may not work in safe mode, in that case this will not help you.. if you discover this is a problem with your computer then simply restart it.

If your computer is basically non responsive or will not get on the internet in regular/normal mode you can start it up in a special diagnostic mode “safemode”

If your computer is wireless you need to connect it to a your network or modem using the Ethernet cable as most wireless connections will not work in safe mode

1. Turn the computer off completely

2. Look for the F8 key in the top row of your keyboard

3. Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the F8 key you have to be FAST

4. When you see a screen that says something to the effect of advanced options you can stop clicking the F8 key

5. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard highlight safe mode with networking and press enter on your keyboard

6. The next screen may ask you to choose your operation system.. highlight your operating system and press enter on your keyboard

7. The next screen may show a bunch of “gibberish” (technical term) ignore it, it should disappear in a minute .. be patient.

8. You should eventually see a logon screen , select your username or owner.. do not choose administrator

9. You should see your desk top it should be a black background with the words safe mode in all 4 corners, the icons may be bigger, the screen size may be different as well and you will probably need to “scroll to see things…that’s ok, you will see a message box telling you windows is running in safe mode..click yes

10. Now try getting onto the internet with your usual web browser

Facebook friends or foe?

A friend on Facebook asked me this today.

Is the following true??

ATTENTION!!!*** Do not accept a friend request from a CHRISTOPHER DAVIES and JESSICA DAVIES they are hackers. Tell every 1 on your list because if somebody on your list adds him, he’ll be on your list too. He’ll figure out ur computer’s ID and address, so copy & paste this ……message to everyone even if u don’t care for them cause if he hacks them, he hacks you

What is this message really telling you?

Its telling us beware of strangers! Remember don’t accept candy from strangers? That sort of thing.

What can happen is, if you click a link in your email that you , you can get a virus on your system, that much is absolutely true. So beware of all emails from any source.

When you do get a email notification that someone has written on your wall, or a notification that there is a message for you on Facebook… do not click the link in your email… Sign into face book and read it.

If you get a message in your email that I or someone else that is your friend on Facebook wants you to watch a video… “click here” DONT CLICK … again goto your Facebook acct and see if the message is there.

Even still you may click a link that sends you to a “drive by download ” website and you can get a virus.

1 out of 1000 sites are hacked..

I had a client call me early Sunday morning, she was searching for natural dog food, the website was hacked and she saw one of these poups.. she called me before she clicked on it.

Anyone can harvest email addresses … then send out fake but legitimate looking emails that look like they came from Facebook. Or a friend on Facebook… so you gotta be careful.

If you are on the internet visiting a websites no matter how legit the site is, If you get a popup that says your computer is infected with viruses…. try not to click on that popup.

Try to close all instances of Internet Explorer or firefox , safari, depending on what web browser you use.

Do so by right clicking clicking on the box in your task bar, then select “close”.

OR open task manager and end the internet explorer Firefox or safari task from there…

If you cant to that click start and then shut down your computer.. if you need to remove a computer virus (click)

hope that helps

Tech support and virus removal

My name is Rick Mitchell.
Although my career started in manufacturing and machinery, computers and innovation have always been hobbies of mine. My professional involvement with computers really started in manufacturing when I was educated and became adept at programming machining centers. My last job in this area was programming computer-controlled machines to produce connecting rods for Chrysler engines. When Daimler and Chrysler merged, I learned that it was time for a new direction in my career.

My involvement and enjoyment with computers was a natural choice to pursue and I transitioned from programming computer controlled machines into Information technology. I applied to Microsoft for the necessary education and then for the Microsoft Systems Engineer and Systems Administrator certifications. I tested and then passed the certification examinations.

I joined a small company, in the Detroit area, as a computer technician, and then when an opportunity for growth became available, transferred to another organization where I became the Information Technology Manager. The challenges were worth the move because I was able to support the company expansion into Florida and then into Canada, from Ontario to British Columbia.
I am now taking an opportunity to build a small company of my own. My focus will be helping small businesses and the general public maintain and expand their computer systems and networks.
